Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Steve Ropfogel

Candidate for
City Clerk; City of Glendale

This information is provided by the candidate

My vision of the Clerks office is as the Gate Keeper of open and honest city government. The office is the first one called when someone has a question regarding the city and the caller does not know where to start looking they call the clerk's office. To further that belief my top three priorities are:

1) Increase voter registration and turnout. The Clerk's office should aggressively distribute voter registration forms to new Glendale residents to increase voter participation. This can be accomplished by partnering with the Glendale Association of Realtors and apartment owners and managers. One other way of increasing registration is to work with high school government teachers to encourage and give incentives to seniors for registering to vote. Increasing voter turnout is an ongoing problem for all elections. One possible solution is an all mail in ballot. This is being tried in Burbank and we need to look closely at their results.

2) Create a City Clerk's email newsletter. In an effort to expand participation in City Government, I would institute a bi-monthly city email newsletter to highlight openings on city boards and commissions, give citizens notice of special meetings (budget study sessions, joint council/school board meetings, etc.) and other issues of importance.

3) Better use of the Clerk's web site. Improving the web site by making it more interactive. All public records in Glendale should be available on the internet. We should expand automated services for license renewal, applying for boards and commissions, information requests and other procedures to make our local government better serve Glendale residents.
