  • Grew up in Massachusetts, graduated from Skidmore College and worked as a social worker for many years
  • Has business experience as the manager of the law partnership of Taylor, Simonson & Winter LLP
  • Has been married to Marshall for nearly 40 years (they met on a blind date!)
  • Has two grown sons (products of Claremont schools and sports): Andrew, an M.B.A. student at the University of Michigan and Matthew, a Claremont attorney, who lives with his wife, the former Amy Slucter, in South Claremont.

Ellen has taken a leadership role in many organizations in Claremont.
  • League of Women Voters: past President
  • Claremont Chamber of Commerce: past president
  • Claremont Heritage, board member and past Vice President
  • City of Claremont Traffic and Transportation Commission: Chair for four years.
  • Friends of the Library Board: Vice President
  • Claremont Community Coordinating Council: Vice President/Membership

  • City of Claremont's Committee on Aging/ Chair: Legal and Protective Services Sub-Committee
  • Citizen's Committee for the General Plan.

In the aftermath of a tragedy in town, Ellen organized Study Circles, small discussion groups that allowed people to get together to talk about the issues. Hundreds of Claremont citizens participated, and many credit Study Circles with beginning the healing of the community.

She and her husband, Marshall, were honored as Grand Marshals of the July 4th Parade in 2002.

Ellen put down roots in town 27 years ago, and this is truly her home. She is a Claremont property owner and a business leader. She will represent you in a responsible, prudent, caring manner. She pledges to work hard to keep Claremont a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.
