Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Katie Martin

Candidate for
Council Member; City of La Habra Heights

This information is provided by the candidate

We must protect and preserve our rural character, while still allowing our community to clean up and remodel their homes. Balance is what is needed.

In the coming year, challeges lie ahead for our city and the council. One of these challeges will be rewriting the ordinances needed to properly implement our new General Plan. Simplifying and reducing the cost of remodeling needs to be done during this process.

The significant cost and delays of remodeling a home cause buyers and new families to look at many of our older homes as "tear down" This is one of the reasons our smaller, older homes are being torn down and replaced with much larger "mansions". It would be better for our city to encourage the gradual enhancement of home size by simplifying and reducing the cost to remodel. This simple but effective step will help revitalize and clean up our city while retaining our existing diverse community character.

High density housing and tract homes do not have a place in our city. I believe in scaling the size of the house to the size of the lot. I will fight to preserve views, distances between homes and oppose the Aera development.

I will listen to the residents with respect, work at keeping our roads safe from cut-through traffic, excessive speed and overhanging brush. I will fully evaluate the proposed city hall/firestation and figure out the best way to give our volunteers some new living quarters.

We need a fresh, positive voice on the council. One that will bring back some balance. I would be honored to serve you on the council. Please vote March 8th.
