BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Al is a New York City native and attended New York University, where he earned a AB, MS and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry.

Al joined Xerox Corporation in Rochester New York where he worked as a Senior Scientist studying basic science problems in the Physics Research Laboratory. In 1973 he relocated to Claremont when he transferred to Xerox Medical Systems, in Pasadena, to manage the Consumables Technology and Manufacturing group. After 31 years of service, he retired from Xerox in 1995.

He has served on the Claremont City Council from 1990 to 2003, and as mayor from 1994 to 1997. As a part of his council duties, Al focused on transportation issues facing Claremont and our region.

Al Leiga is an active participant in a number of city and area organizations. He is a trustee of the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District and is a commissioner on the Los Angeles County Commission on Quality & Productivity. Al is the chair of the Claremont Chapter of the American Red Cross and is on the Board of Overseers of the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden. More recently he has joined the board of the Claremont Community Foundation.

As Chair of the Los Angeles to Pasadena Metro Blue Line Construction Authority Al's vision is to complete the Gold Line from Pasadena to Montclair in San Bernardino County to create a quality transit link from downtown, through the San Gabriel Valley, to the Inland Empire.
