Garland C. Jamison, Jr. is the second son born to Garland and Vera Jamison in Long Beach, CA in 1957. In 1958, his family moved to Compton. Garland graduated from Compton High School with honors in 1975. After high school, Garland attended Compton College and Cal State Los Angeles.

Garland has been involved in Lakewood Youth Services for several years. These activities include Totally Friday Night (TFN) and Recreational Therapy programs. Garland has also worked closey with Council member Joe Esquivel and and Vice Mayor Wayne Percy on Project Shepherd for a number of year.

Garland and his wife of 25 years, Lorenda have been residents of Lakewood for over 20 years. They have one son, Garland III who graduated from Mayfair High in 2003 and is presently attending Cypress College.
