A BALANCED CITY BUDGET We must keep a balanced City Budget and earn enough to pay for what is essential, by spending less than we earn. Mike has helped balance a budget with over a $14 Million Reserve. He has also helped institute a 5-year capital improvement program. Mike has helped streamline City purchasing procedures by converting water utility billing and meter reading to in-house saving money and providing better service. We have also doubled our reserve funds for a future Police and Library building. PUBLIC SERVICE High quality public service is a must! Deferring maintenance of the City's infrastructure, mortgages our future. Miles of street have been resurfaced and grant money helped widen Spring Street. Miles of City sewers have been turned over to the Sanitation District, saving the City time and money. Graffiti Abatement has also been expanded to cover the entire City PUBLIC SAFETY Mike believes that public safety is our #1 priority. Our Signal Hill Police Department has one of the lowest crime rates in Southern California. We have a new Police substation in the Las Brisas development. Our Fire Protection Service has improved and saved the City over $1 Million with our own Fire Station manned by four L.A. County firefighters, a Captain, Engineer & two Firefighter Paramedics and backups. PARKS & RECREATION During Mike's term in office, we have established five new parks: Raymond Arbor, Sunset View, Panorama Promenade, Discovery Well, and now Calbrisas Park, all paid for by Grants or Development fees. We have added more trails and continue to work on the North Flank in trying to obtain the needed grants for a Conservancy, which would add more open space and establish a Nature Preserve. We now also have a Child Care Program, Youth Program, Family & Senior Programs, such as Dial-a-Taxi, Dial-a-Lift and special Senior Bus programs. These are paid for by grants and special user fees. |
