Meet Mike! Mike Giorgino is the Republican nominee for Congress in California's 51st District, serving South San Diego and Imperial Counties. Prior to the congressional race, Mike Giorgino, 50, was an associate with the law firm of Gates, O'Doherty, Gonter & Guy, which specializes in civil litigation defense. Mike Giorgino received his Bachelors degree from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA in 1976. The following year, he was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve at Officer Candidate School, Newport, RI. He qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer, serving onboard six ships and commanding two shore bases during a 20 year Naval career. A Gulf War veteran, he retired as a Commander in 1997. After his military service, Mike Giorgino earned a law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association, California Bar Association and the San Diego County Bar Association. He is Vice President of the Federalist Society of San Diego Lawyer's Chapter. Mike Giorgino campaigned hard for President George W. Bush in 2000 and was a co-founder of California Veterans for Bush. Mike Giorgino is an active member of San Diego's Republican Party leadership where he served as Communications Director and a member the Central Committee and Executive Council. He was the Republican candidate for State Senate, 40th District, representing South San Diego and Imperial Counties in 2002. His writings have been published in the San Diego Union-Tribune, Chula Vista/National City Star-News, the Imperial Valley Press, and many other newspapers, magazines, and websites. Mike Giorgino has long ties to Southern California, since first serving at 32nd Street Naval Station in 1977. His parents, Doris and Louis Giorgino, have lived in Coronado for 17 years. He has been a community activist in Southern California since retiring from military service in 1997. |
