Restore the Public and Employee's Confidence in the BoardBy Beverly (McKay) FontanaCandidate for Harbor Commissioner; San Mateo County Harbor District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
To insure the proper operation of the Harbor District there must be a level of employee trust in the Board, that doesn't exist today. This can only come about by an open-minded attitude and an effort by the Board to become knowledgeable with the needs of all employees. I believe some of the current Board members should take time to listen to employees and not just management's rendition of issues at the District. They would then have a clear picture of the problems before they become major grievances, thus saving thousands in taxpayer's money for legal fees each year! As past Teamster's Union Local 856 shop steward at the District I know the union employees have only the interest of the public in their minds and take their jobs seriously. Most of their concerns address safety issues that could adversely affect public users. They need to be heard. |
