We must protect our uniqueness and coastal sensitive resources. This is one of the few areas in the southern half of California where the scenery is special and where people that can still feel the friendliness of our village.
I will scrutinize all district projects and make recommended changes to protect the character of our village. The board must review and approve all grant applications before they are submitted.
I want to encourage greater participation from the public in public meetings, more of a democratic system. I want to change the time of the meetings so that the working people can attend. I want to encourage the middle school and high school students to observe and learn what is going on with their local politics. Let's hear their ideas and hopes for the future as well. Let us take more time with these issues that come before the CCSD, let us debate the pros and cons of each one and delay making decisions until we have more clarity and comprehension of such. I also hope to put a friendliness and compassion towards our fellow Cambrians during the meetings so that the board is approachable and presents itself as a group wanting to help the community at large.
The District wants to increase our water supply by 50% and bind our community to providing water to San Simeon whether or not a federal grant is received. This desalination project also provides for 650 more houses in Cambria, operates nine months of the year, and pollutes the ocean with toxic waste. We must save the otters, seals, and whales from contaminated waters.
We are a small community and the registered voters should determine the outcome of expensive projects, such as the desalination project, that will irrevocably change their way of life.
A combination of Recycled Water, Demand Management and Watershed Enhancement for just our district will serve us better for the long term.
Residents are concerned that criminal acts are on the rise and that they want the sheriffs to spend more time in the Cambria area.
There are some housekeeping matters to be attended to such as budgeting for and replacing the undersized water lines for fire safety that were disclosed on the front page of the Tribune at the beginning of the fire season.
During this North Coast Update, all of the lots that have been set aside by the District and given to the District by the SLO Land Conservancy should be designated in the "Open Space" Land Use Category.
Together we can work to save our community. I would be honored by your vote.
