Our Children Deserve the BestBy Valerie WadeCandidate for Board Member; Vista Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
The children of Vista and Oceanside will be inheriting a complex, challenging world. They MUST receive the BEST PUBLIC EDUCATION possible to be successful. Besides state-mandated basic skills, they need more challenging coursework, such as recently adopted in computers, the sciences, and technology. I will continue setting these high standards. I have led a successful schools construction bond election and the successful completion of 6 new schools, RELIEVING STUDENT OVERCROWDING, adding 17 teaching days, resulting in INCREASED STUDENT LEARNING. I will continue my leadership in completing our cornerstone project, the new high school, including implementation of its innovative curriculum of entrepreneurial science and communications, while using fiscally responsible construction practices. I WELCOME ideas and opinions of all stakeholders---parents, teachers, administrators, civic leaders---for effective governance. I will continue my communications via newsletters, email, phone calls, and community meetings. As a longtime community volunteer I know the value of communications and teamwork. It takes ALL stakeholders to prepare our students for their futures. As a FORMER TEACHER, PARENT VOLUNTEER, and CURRENT TRUSTEE, my sole focus will continue to be the welfare and education of the community's children.
