San Diego County, CA | November 2, 2004 Election |
Communication between the residents and the County of San DiegoBy Craig T. JohnsonCandidate for Board Member; Valley Center Community Planning Area | |

A last minute mailer was sent out in the last Planning Group election urging the vote for "pillars of the community." It was successful, and of them, three attend the minimum meetings, do the minimum work, and do not attend sub-committee meetings or special meetings, where Valley Center's future is being decided. All vote as one and regularly vote in opposition to the Valley Center Community Plan and the Design Guidelines. They have consistently voted for a proposed suburban strip center with a 58,000 square foot grocery, double the size that the community has repeated asked for in Planning Group public meetings. They are building suburbia and giving up on Valley Center. As a past Chairman of the Valley Center Planning Group, a founder of Valley Center's Design Review program, and a twenty-five year resident, I've watched this deterioration of Valley Center's planning standards over the last ten or twelve years and am greatly concerned. I hope you are, too, because if we allow this next phase to be done wrong, we'll never again have the Valley Center we all moved here to enjoy. Of course, there will be growth. But within that context, what kind of growth? |
