Political Philosophy for David L. Horacek

Do you want your child to have an average education or are you like me and strive for an above average education for your child? Better education shouldn't be zip code specific. The San Marcos school system attained average test scores for reading and math, below average results for students meeting UC/UCSD course requirements, and below average results in SAT participation rates. Woodland Park Middle School was the only Middle School that made the San Diego County "Top 75 Schools in Reading: Students Scoring Above Average" (according to School Wise Press) but they came in near the bottom of the list at number 56 with a score of only 60% compared to 94% for the number 1 school Rancho Santa Fe. The San Marcos High School came in near the bottom of the list of San Diego County "Top 75 Schools in Reading: Students Scoring Above Average" (also according to School Wise Press) at number 51 with only 38% compared to the 79% of the number 1 school Torrey Pines. The bottom line is that there is room for significant improvements in this School District. The 3 incumbents say, "We're getting better and better around here." I say better is not good enough! My goal is to bring to the board a fresh perspective and to "be the best." Parents in this district don't want their children to have an average education. |
