My family moved to Morgan Hill in 1972. After living away for college and work opportunities, my wife, Kirsten and I decided to move back to Morgan Hill to begin our own family. The community of Morgan Hill has been an important influence in my life and now I have the opportunity to give back to the community. As Silicon Valley continues to prosper and grow, many new young families like mine are moving to Morgan Hill. My experiences are similar to those of other working families and individuals. Whether it is commuting to jobs in Silicon Valley, being involved in our local schools, trying to find affordable housing or enjoying the open parks and rural lifestyle of Morgan Hill, I will continue to bring to City Hall a perspective that is representative of a growing part of our population. My background as a City Councilmember, former School Board Member, former Congressional aide and past Director of Education for the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group and current Director of Government Relations for Stanford Hospital will help me bring a regional approach to policies, and help me to engage our colleagues in neighboring and overlapping jurisdictions. Four years ago I asked for your support to help elect me to the City Council. We campaigned on a theme of putting families first, invigorating our local economy, completing public facilities projects and preserving the slow-growth, quality of life we love about Morgan Hill. I decided to run for re-election because I think we have had great success in achieving this agenda of protecting and improving the qualities we love about Morgan Hill while making change in areas that needed improvements. However, there is still work to be done. The challenge of the state's economy is affecting our City budget. We have worked hard to craft policies and practices that have kept our budget balanced through greater efficiencies and cuts to some areas. The challenge ahead is to maintain the high expectations of city services with fewer resources. Re-election can be a long and challenging road. But with your support, energy, and enthusiasm, I know we can win. We may not have always agreed on every issue, but I've worked hard to understand all sides of issues, to develop ways to solve problems and build consensus and, most importantly, to always be available to listen and learn before casting my vote. I'm honored to have the support of Morgan Hill's firefighters, and many leaders throughout South County. If you believe in candidates with a commitment to the community, track record of positive results, experience, energy and ideas, then I would be honored if you would support my re-election.
