Part 3:
How History Will Remember Me
|

What will I do if I succeed in my quest?
To quote a line from the movie, "The Emperor's Club": "Ambition and conquest . . . without contribution . . . is without significance."
What will your contribution be? How will history remember you?
History will remember me because of the respect I give the process and the participants.
The American court is a place and a process that has been around for over 200 years. Justice has been breathing in those walls for over 200 years.
Essential to justice is respect . . . not only for the process and the forum, but also the participants. My contribution will be to treat every person who walks through the courtroom door with the same respect, dignity, and courtesy that I wanted to receive when I walked through the courtroom door.
You would be surprised how many judges do not follow this concept.
Despite the title of "Superior" Court Judge, a judge has a significant position, but should not act "superior" to anyone else in the courtroom.
As a judge I intend to contribute in other ways.
To quote another line from the same movie, "The end depends upon the beginning."
I hope to establish a pilot program for judges similar to a program I participated in as a Deputy DA. A program where I would travel to a participating elementary school, and talk to the children once a week for an hour, throughout the semester. We talked about family issues, peer pressure, gang influences, and other topics, which affect these children. A program that ended with each child writing me an essay about how I just affected their life, and how much each child learned from the program.
Judges, because of their position, command great respect. With great respect, one can exert great influence to eager minds.
"The end depends upon the beginning."
I thank you for your support and for your vote.
When I become judge, I have no doubt that my presence on the bench will somehow affect you, as my ripple of water breaks upon your feet.
