BIOGRAPHY

Angie Medina obtained her Bachelors' degree in Business Administration from Redlands University and her Master's degree from USC School of Public Administration in Health Care. Ms. Medina started her career with the County in the Department of Health Services in 1971 as a clerical support person in the Social Work Department at LAC+USC Medical Center. A year later, the Patient Financial Services (PFS) Division was created, and she joined the staff of that division.

For the next 16 years, she held various positions in PFS which included, Assistant Director of PFS at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital, and Chief of Admissions, at Pediatrics, Physchiatric, Women's and General hospitals. In 1987, she changed her career path and became the Director of Affirmative Action fgor the Department of Health Services.

In 1990, she became the Assistant Director of Operations for the Contract Program Office, where she assumed responsibility for initiating and processing Medi-Cal applications for pregnant women who had come to the Department of Health Services for care. Theses patients were then referred to contract physicians and hospitals for OB and delivery services.

Later, as the Assistant Director of Operations for the Office of Managed Care, she was responsible for marketing, enrollment, member services and other activities. In 1996, she assumed responsibility for the Office of Managed Care Contract unit.

In August 1997, she began working as the Director of the Children's Health Outreach Initiative. In this role, she was responsible for developing and implementing an outreach plan with the Department of Public Social Services for enrolling eligible children and families in health coverage programs. This program places a strong emphasis on community-based outreach through collaborative and partnerships with other County departments, schools, community-based organizations and various children's stakeholders. As a component of this program, she managed a $ 25 million, 5 year grant to community organizations to conduct health coverage enrollment.

She is currently the Outreach Coordinator for Children's Medical Services, Child Health and Disability Prevention Program.

Angie is very active in the community and volunteers for numerous organizations. She is a resident of Whittier.
