1. Why are you running for Superior Court Judge?

Answer from John C. Gutierrez:

I have ll years experience as an Administrative Law Judge with the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board. I will continue to follow my practice of weighing the evidence thoroughly and of applying the law with fairness and impartiality based on the facts and circumstances of each individual case. The foundation of a strong and confident society is a court system that is open to everyone. I look forward to bringing my experience to the Los Angeles Superior Court System.

Answer from Laura F. Priver:

I have been a Deputy District Attorney for over 19 years and am honored to have served the public in that capacity. I believe justice is the ultimate goal of our legal system. As a DDA, I have always kept justice in mind and have obtained results that both protect society and punish appropriately those who violate the law. However, I have come to understand that a judge who is experienced, knowledgeable, intellegent, diligent yet fair is in the most critical position to ensure a just resutlt for all parties. I can be that judge and would be honored to have the opportunity to do so.

2. What are the personal qualities which best equip you to serve as a judge?

Answer from Laura F. Priver:

I possess all the qualities that are critical to being a good judge. I know the law. I am intelligent and have the capacity and willingness to learn new areas of law if necessary. I am dedicated. I have proven I am both a talented trial attorney and a skilled administrator. I am a good listener. Perhaps most important, I have the necessary temperment to be a firm but fair judge. Answer from John C. Gutierrez:

The values my parents and grandparents instilled in me, respect for the elderly, respect for every persons dignity and to respect those less fortunate than I, has given me the responsibility as a judge to integrate these values into the fairness of my decision making.
