Four Point Plan for Our Schools

By Dave Brown

Candidate for Board Member; West Contra Costa Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
A summary of Dave Brown's four point plan to get our schools back on track.
West County deserves a School Board representative with a clear vision for improving our schools. Born and raised in Pinole and El Sobrante, I am a product of West County public schools, a graduate of Stanford University, and a former teacher and coach at Pinole Valley High School.

I have analyzed budgets and implemented public policy to support children and families in local schools, cities and counties. My wife and I currently manage a West County small business serving non-profits and public agencies.

My experience will help resolve budget deficits and ensure a well-rounded education, including music, arts and sports.

My four-point plan to improve student achievement:

Invest in Teachers. Offer salary and benefits that attract and retain top teachers. Provide supports such as mentor teachers, classroom aides and site supervisors.

Invest in Literacy. Improve and expand literacy programs existing in the district. Kids who learn to read early succeed in school and life.

Invest in Opportunities. Middle and high school students need diverse and challenging electives and programs, including vocational education and pre-apprenticeships.

Invest in Leadership. Hire the best principals and give them the resources and support to make a difference in our schools.

I am proud to be endorsed by the United Teachers of Richmond, West Contra Costa School Board member Patricia Player, Hercules Mayor Joanne Ward, Pinole City Councilmember Maria Alegria, Contra Costa County Sheriff Warren E. Rupf, and Tammy Campbell.

I would be honored to have your support.
