Candidate for
Council Member; City of Fremont

In 1955, Robert A. Wieckowski was born in the city of San Francisco. By the age of four Bob and his family were living in Fremont. He attended Fremont public schools and graduated from Kennedy High in 1973. Bob enjoyed the honor of playing on the MVAL football championship Titan team in 1972. He went on to study Political Science at the University of California-Berkley, where he graduated in 1977.

Following his university graduation, Bob worked in Washington, D.C. as an assistant to U.S. Congressman Don Edwards until 1982. During his 5 years on Capitol Hill, Bob specialized in transportation and environmental issues. His staff work includes assistance with land acquisition and construction of the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge headquarters, BART and Santa Clara County Transit District funding, and a host of other important matters.

Bob returned to California to attend Santa Clara University Law School, graduating in 1985. From 1986 to 1988 he studied the Polish language in Krakow, Poland. In 1988, Bob returned to California to practice law and works primarily in the area of business bankruptcy reorganization. He returned to Poland in 1992 for another year abroad developing business projects.

Bob served as the campaign manager for Gus Morrison in 1985 when he was elected Mayor of Fremont and as Morrison's campaign chair in 1992 when he was elected again. In 1998 Bob ran for Fremont city council. He placed third in the race for two council seats. Bob is a member of the Alameda County Bar Association, and serves on its Court-Appointed criminal defense panel. He devotes a month every summer to teaching English in the Czech Republic.

In the past two years Bob has made some significant contributions to the city of Fremont. He led the charge in the fight to keep Kennedy High School open. He is an active member in Tri-City Ecology Center, which involves him in the preservation of Lake Elizabeth and the improvement of Fremont parks. Bob is also the sitting Commissioner of the Fremont Recreation Committee. He is a citizen participant in the Downtown Planing Advisory Commission. And Bob is a volunteer member of the Shelter Against Violent Environments (SAVE) Task Force. When Bob is not volunteering his free time he maintains his law practice in Fremont and enjoys running, mountain biking and the theater.

Bob is currently running for Fremont City Council because he feels he can keep Fremont a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
