BART Seismic Retrofit

By Peter Wesley "Pete" Snyder

Candidate for Director; San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate
Need to continue work on seismic upgrade of the older parts of the BART System
For several years now the BART Board has been struggling with how to attack the Seismic needs of the system. Many consultants have looked at the problem and in the last two years have concluded that many aspects need to be improved upon. It is imperative that the Board continue to focus on this situation for the salvation of the system as well as the security and safety of our patrons and employees. BART will have a ballot measure on the November 2, ballot to create the base funding for these projects. The Board must also determine how to fund the rest of the needs. I have proposed, in a paper that I developed four years ago, a method to pay for much of the work as well as a means to pay for capital improvements in the future such as new train cars.It is my desire to continue to pursue this area and help determine the long term survival of BART.
