Improving our DowtownBy Betty OldsCandidate for Council Member; City of Berkeley; Council District 6 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Our downtown has enormous potential, but we are perilously close to losing all the advances that were made a few years ago. We need to support our arts district, our businesses and our library and provide safe and inexpensive parking in our downtown.Public transit does need serve the North Berkeley hills very well. That is why we need to provide more safe and inexpensive parking in our downtown. Our business and theatres, the YMCA and our main library all are suffering because of inadequate parking supply in our downtown. I support the concept of a Hotel/Conference center and Museum Complex in the downtown. I would insist that it be a beautiful design and that public amenities be included. The money that Vista College has put aside for transportation mitigations needs to be used to build a user friendly parking structure that will serve all downtown users. |
