Eliminating medical mistakes improves the quality of healthcare.
Insurance companies, hospitals, and doctors say medical malpractice insurance is skyrocketing due to lawsuits, however no one seems to ask the question why 98,000 Americans die a year from medical mistakes. Limiting malpractice lawsuit settlements is not the only answer; insurance companies, hospitals, and doctors need to review their risk management policies. Citizens continue to beg state lawmakers for help in keeping health care affordable. One way to do this is for health care and insurance industries to review their accounting procedures for waste, fraud and abuses as a possible way to hold down costs. Other healthcare Issues: Many of the frail elderly need more help staying out of nursing homes. By expanding state funding for in-home care options, we can assist older adults in their attempt to stay in their familiar surroundings with their life-long friends. Prescription drugs continue to skyrocket, and it's time pharmaceutical companies bring the pricing of prescription drugs in-line. Something is wrong when you can buy American-made prescription medicines cheaper in Canada than here in Ohio.
