Improve and Protect our SchoolsBy Chuck DeVoreCandidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 70; Republican Party | |

We have the best public schools in California in the 70th Assembly District, but, as good as our schools are, we can and we must make them even better. We have the best public schools in California in the 70th Assembly District (my wife, Diane, is a public school teacher in Irvine and our two daughters attend Irvine public schools). As good as our schools are, we can and we must make them even better. We need to do everything we can to ensure taxpayer dollars end up in the classroom, not lost in Sacramento's red tape. Sacramento mandates continue to erode local control, tying the hands of our locally elected school boards and hindering their ability to respond to local needs. Sacramento politicians focus all their education efforts towards fixing the massive LA Unified school system + then seek to impose their "fixes" on the rest of California. Enacting a two-year budgeting process to fund our schools is one of my top priorities. Today, our education leaders are forced to spend enormous amounts of time and energy dealing with politically-imposed uncertainty. Our school districts must adopt budgets and hire staff based on best guesses and long before they know how much revenue will be allotted to them by Sacramento. A two-year budget cycle will allow our education professionals the opportunity to think about how to better educate our children and plan their budgets based on real information. Key education leaders say this in support of my candidacy: Chuck Devore believes the best public schools in California are in the 70th Assembly District. His wife, Diane, is a public school teacher in Irvine and his two daughters attend Irvine public schools. Chuck will fight to retain local control of our schools so that taxpayer dollars are supporting our children's education rather than Sacramento's bureaucracy.
