Values Every individual has the right to live their lives as they wish as long as they take responsibility for the consequences of their actions. As a result, I believe the role of government should be limited in restricting peoples behavior. Every individual should contribute time, treasure, and talent to the common good whether that be to the public or private non-profit sector of society. Society/Government has the responsibiltiy to ensure that every member of society has equal opportunity to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Society/Government has the responsibility to ensure that every member of society has the right to live in a safe, healthy, and caring environment. Political Style and Approach I am not in favor of an adversarial, contentious, adversly competitive style of resolving political problems. I am in favor on building consensus using differences to create win-win positions. I believe we need to respectful of one another, we need to find ways to care for one another and resolve to the degree possible the fear, anger, and frustration that is produced in the decision making process. To the degree we deal with mean spirited people who want to win at any price, I believe we should respectfully stand our ground without rancour or disrespect. Often I find myself not acting like I believe. It is hard for me not to become competitve or threatened by others behavior. But I believe the secret to our creating a successful future is by adopting the above approach. |
