Neighborhood Leader and Community BuilderBy Heather FargoCandidate for Mayor; City of Sacramento | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I honed my political skills advocating for my neighborhood. As a founding member of the Natomas Community Association, I learned how to make local government work for my community. I am a strong supporter of public input in the planning process. I am proud of the many parks playgrounds, sports fields, bike trails, libraries, youth and community centers I have brought to the city. I have created new reinvestment strategies reviving older retail areas as well as guiding development in new areas of the city. I believe in making Sacramento a walkable and fully accessible city. I have demonstrated a strong commitment to Sacramento's children. I fought for longer hours and new materials for our city libraries. I developed the Mayor's Summer Reading Camp for children with reading problems and is committed to after school programs like the Sacramento START program. I am committed to building partnerships with city school districts to enhance our children's educational opportunities. I am a youth sports fan and I am committed to improving facilities and adding leagues and teams where none exist. |
