|
Danielle Mead was born and raised in the town of McLean, Virginia, a diverse suburb of Washington, D.C. In high school, she was a member of the Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. Her extracurricular activities ranged from performing in her high school choir and the singing group, the Madrigals, to starting as pitcher for her varsity softball team (which she co-captained during her senior year). While pursuing her bachelor's degree in Music and Women's Studies at Vassar College, Danielle became an active member of the student body with her successful campaign for Dormitory President, an elected position on the Vassar Students Association Council. Her duties as Dorm President included planning dorm social events, settling residential disputes, and acting as liaison between residents and the college's administrative departments. This led to a summer position in the Office of Residential Life, where Danielle oversaw all incoming freshman room assignments, among other things. After winning a second term as Dorm President, Danielle was elected Chair of the Board of House Presidents, earning her a position on the VSA Executive Board. The following year, Danielle was appointed Chair of the 1998 Founder's Day Committee. Created to honor college founder Matthew Vassar, Founder's Day is the largest student-run event on campus, with a budget of $30,000 (50% of which comes from fundraising efforts). After graduation, Danielle moved to Los Angeles to pursue her interest in music, but she soon found a better match for her strong organizational skills and hands-on approach in the world of e-commerce. After successfully winning a rent reduction for the tenants in her West Hollywood apartment building, Danielle looked for additional ways to serve the community. She joined the Green Party in 2003, became an active member of the LA Greens, and continues to seek avenues to promote and implement progressive and Green Party values. Danielle currently works as Senior Manager for Usability and Site Analytics at Shoes.com, an online subsidiary of Brown Shoe. |
