My hopes and vision for our School DistrictBy Katherine D. FaginCandidate for Board Member; Redwood City Elementary School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I envision a Partnership in our District that includes parents, teachers, and community members working together. As a team, we can create a School District that takes our students beyond the basics, in a manner that is responsible for financial decisions and is accountable for the outcomes.I understand our school issues because I live with them every day. I've been a school volunteer for more than 6 years, on the PTA, at Site Council, and helping in the classrooms. I will know first-hand what goes on in our schools throughout my 4-year Board term, since my own children will still be in our local public schools until 2009! I work with our parents and teachers on issues that we are all concerned about -- calendar choices, traffic and campus safety, bond construction, and improving communication among our school community members, to name just a few. I've been going to our School Board meetings non-stop for two years as a school representative. I know how the Board works. I also offer you more than this level of insight and experience. I have a vision for our School District I believe that you share with me. Our School Board needs to work TOGETHER with our families and our teachers in a PARTNERSHIP that puts kids first. I will represent all of our community when decisions need to be made. I will come to your schools and ask you how things are working, and what can make things better for our kids' education. I will bring your views to the School Board so that your concerns are taken seriously and are included in decision-making. I want to make sure that we as a School District provide our children with what they need to be prepared for the future. We should spend our money on our kids' education. Our decisions and priorities should be created from the classroom UP, not from the District Office DOWN. We must prioritize teaching beyond the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic, to building character and a strong sense of values that are the core of our community. I'm talking about honesty, treating people with respect, being responsible for ourselves and being accountable to each other. When we, as the role models in our schools and in our community, act with integrity, we are teaching our kids to grow up to do the same. We don't know what our children will make of their lives. What we do know is that if we teach our children well and give their needs the priorities they deserve, by respecting our teachers and our families when we say that something is important for educating our kids, then we are giving them the TOOLS to be successful, whatever their choices. If you agree, please support me, Katherine Fagin, as your representative on our School Board. I invite you to visit my full candidate's web site at http://www.faginforschoolboard.org to learn more about me and my candidacy. Thank you! |
