Palo Alto Daily News Endorsement

By Bern Beecham

Candidate for Council Member; City of Palo Alto

This information is provided by the candidate
...we're completely confident in recommending Dena Mossar and Bern Beecham for re-election.
Beecham has been a calm voice of reason on a quarrelsome and churlish council. He's done an excellent job reaching out to his colleagues and his constituents, even those who haven't agreed with him. He's a friend to both neighborhood leaders and the business community -- which is saying a lot in the turbocharged us-versus-them world of Palo Alto politics. He has a strong environmental record, he stands up for housing and his knowledge of utilities issues paid off when council successfully dealt with electrical power issues during the blackout crisis two years ago.

Beecham and Mossar have taken the toughest line on controlling city spending among the four incumbents up for re-election, and residents should encourage them to do more to reduce excess costs while maintaining core services such as police and fire.

We like Mossar's idea of having an independent auditor or expert look at city spending, particularly at payroll, head count, benefits and pension costs.

Beecham ... will bring reason and civility to council discussions ... We think these four will get the city back on track.
