Position on Balancing the BudgetBy James "Jim" FranklinCandidate for Council Member; City of Palm Springs | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
The following is a brief outline of why I am running for the Palm springs City CouncilAs a realtor in Palm Springs I work with people every day who are investing in our community. My main goal upon being elected to the City Council will be to work to preserve and enhance your investment in Palm Springs. Things have changed over the fifteen years that I have lived here. We have seen an influx of new, younger people that have come to call Palm Springs their home. The summers are no longer a time of year for everyone to close down and go to the beach. Our downtown has experienced a burst of energy that will only be enhanced by the opening of the new casino. Before joining Tarbell Realtors I owned and operated my own business. I worked to balance our budget, meet our payroll and make a profit in the end. While government is not a business, there are many similarities. I will make the tough decisions, but at the same time have compassion for our city employees and my fellow residents. I will also work to improve the involvement of our neighborhoods. Over the last few years the current administration has failed at improving communications with the residents who pay the taxes. I feel that we need to be more responsive to the concerns of citizens. I am in favor of changing the city council meetings so that concerned citizens can receive an answer to their issue at the time they are addressing the council. I will not sit and ignore your concerns. We can continue to move our city forward, but I can't do it alone; I need your vote. I will work hard to build a strong City Council and promise to always tell you the truth, good or bad. I also promise to represent all of the residents of Palm Springs, not special interest groups who are looking for a handout from the taxpayers. Let's keep our city moving forward.
