Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Michael Harris

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Salinas City Elementary School District; Trustee Area 1

This information is provided by the candidate

There is no true parent representation on the current Elementary school board. Community support for schools is at a all time low. School board elections are typically decided by as few 300-500 votes. I'm begging you to use your absentee ballot to vote for the future of your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We need to address English as a Second Language and encourage their parents to speak more English at home to establish a win-win scenario. Emphasis on the Arts & Music because it's known to heighten student progress in other subjects, strengthen discpline & promote self-confidence. Expose our children to more careers & opportunities. Not just fireman, nurse, lawyer, etc., but a color illustrator, programmer, auditor, public relations, oceanographer. Let their dreams begin. With the financial issues facing us we must take the blinders off to be creative to encourage businesses to make a committment to your schools; share in the cost with the county or whatever agency to maintain the budget. Maybe we don't need to build 2 schools, maybe just one.If we can raise 1.3 million for Cancer in this county. What could we do raise for our children. I would be honored to have your vote & serve with integrity to make the unbaised tough decisions for our children, teachers & community.
