Fresh solutions for real concerns facing the SUSHD
My name is Alicia Abeyta, and I am a candidate for the Board of the Salinas Union High School District. As a Trustee, I would offer fresh solutions for the real concerns facing our high school district. I will bring energy, enthusiasm and a commitment to be hands-on and highly visible at our school sites.

I will avidly support: · Rigorous academics with a focus on improved literacy and test scores.

· Zero tolerance for gangs and violence

· Fair discipline standards, consistently applied

· School Choice within the District, and

· Strong music, visual arts, dance, and drama programs.

I will work to: · Improve utilization of resources across school districts.

· Provide better nutritional choices in the schools, and · Ensure that Salinas businesses are the first choice for school district spending.

Let me repeat that I am passionate about improved literacy. In recent weeks we saw Salinas gain the dubious distinction of being one of the ten worst cities for adult literacy in the United States. With the high school district being the last educational stop for many of our students, the Board must ensure that we are turning out a literate citizenry who will be able to take full advantage of the economic, social and political opportunities available to them.

I urge all voters in Area 1 of the district who are looking for leadership and commitment on key educational issues to mark their ballots for ABEYTA and mail them in by Saturday, November 1st to make sure their votes are counted and their voices are heard.
