I'm committed to every child's success and if elected to the School Board, District 1, I will work to improve academic achievement throughout the district. With more than 28 years of LAUSD experience at various levels, I know this district well. I have served as teacher, dean, head counselor, assistant principal, principal, Director of Secondary Instruction for Region C, Region Administrator of Operations. In my most recent position, Principal of Washington Preparatory High School, from 1991 to 2001, I worked with students, parents and teachers to improve the scholastic levels of the students. With the assistance of my staff, an innovative study skills program was developed for school-wide success. Additionally, a standards-based lesson guide was produced which placed Washington Prep in the forefront of schools using common lesson plans and curriculum mapping. Under my leadership, Washington received an outstanding accreditation review and six year accreditation by WASC. Moreover, because of my fairness and accessibility, I gained the respect of students, teachers and parents. If elected, I will work to bring every school in District 1 up to the 50th percentile and beyond. As a School Board member, I will be accessible to and communicate with all stakeholders to facilitate a productive learning environment and scholastic excellence. I will not be a pawn for special interests, nor will I support proposals or issues that take resources away from the classroom while fattening the bureaucracy. I believe that I am the best candidate for District 1.
