Questions & Answers

1. How would you balance civil liberties with the increased need for public security?

I do not believe that there should be a contradiction between civil liberties and public security. While the events of September 11th demonstrate the need for increased public security, such measures must always be balanced against the rights guaranteed to each of us under our Constitution. However, we must draw a distinction between mere inconveniences and the suspension of civil rights. I have the utmost respect for law enforcement, and if elected, I will provide support in their battle to protect Ohio's security. However, these measures must be done in a way that guarantees the protection of civil liberties for all.
