Candidate for
US Representative; District 3

As a lifelong Daytonian, Rick Carne knows and understands the needs of the citizens of the Miami Valley. His experiences in business and government uniquely suit him to best serve every corner of the Ohio Third Congressional District.

For 18 years, Rick Carne worked as the key advisor to the Third District's longtime Representative, Tony Hall, and was in charge of his Congressional offices. In that capacity, he fought alongside Congressman Hall to protect Social Security and Medicare, to pass a strong Patients' Bill of Rights and to provide assistance to those on fixed incomes to get the prescription drugs they need. Rick also played a critical role in protecting local jobs in the aerospace and automobile industries and helped shape many of Congressman Hall's economic development efforts throughout the Miami Valley.

Representative Hall actually said, "With the nation at war and Congress facing crucial decisions about the economy, health care, Social Security and education, this is no time to train someone how to be a member of Congress. We need a person who already knows how to do the job. Rick Carne is the only person in the Third District who is ready to serve from day one."

Prior to assisting Congressman Hall, served three years in executive positions at Dayton Power & Light Company (DP&L). As Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at DP&L, Rick Carne assisted communities in the DP&L service area with economic development projects to create new jobs. He was also an active member of several citizen and business task forces which coordinated efforts between government and private business to foster economic growth in the Third District.

In 1991, Rick, a Democrat, had the privilege of being appointed Montgomery County Treasurer and was later elected to the post in 1992. As the County Treasurer, he led an office which won awards for getting the best deal for taxpayers' investments. Those investments outperformed the marketplace and protected taxpayers' hard-earned money from risk. Carne also simultaneously cut the Treasurer's Office budget by $80,000 without reducing services.

Outside of business and government, Rick worked steadfastly in various leadership roles to improve the lives of citizens and to improve relations between those of different religions and race. He served on the Inner-West Dayton Development Committee, the Mayor's Council on Economic Development and the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce Capital Solicitation Committee. Rick also served the local area as Chair of the Hunger Policy Board, Vice President of the Dayton Jaycees and as a member of the United Way of Greater Dayton's Public Policy Committee, the Sister City Advisory Board, the Dayton Peace Accords Project Board, and the Dayton Council on World Affairs Board. He is a past President of the Ohio Jewish Communities, a past Chair of the Hope International Board of Directors, and has served on the Board of The National Conference of Christians & Jews as well as the advisory committee of the St. Vincent DePaul Hotel for the Homeless.

Rick, age 48, attended Sinclair Community College and Capital University, receiving degrees in Business Administration and Political Science. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Cheryl, who is the membership director for a Dayton-area non-profit agency. They are the proud parents of three teenage girls, all of whom attend Vandalia-Butler schools.
