We must maintain and fix our Infrastructure.First and most important is we must take care of the Hetch Hetchy Water system. San Francisco which owns and operates the system has not maintained it in some areas since it was built in the 1920's and in many areas not in 40 years. Three important bills signed by the Governor this year to force San Francisco to do this are only the start. We must force them. San Francisco fought all three bills and has not shown it's ability or desire to maintain or repair this system. If the system fails we will be without water in vital portions of the Bay area for upwards to 60-90 days. We cannot let that happen. We must work to develope more water storage sites, Above and Below ground. We can not continue to rely on agricultural water to meet our Dry year needs and must never use it for justifying future residential development. We must continue to require large scale development to provide up front where their water supplies will come from, and work with the Agencies granted the stewarship of those supplies to enhance them, through Transfer and Storage legislation. We must continue to build Power Plants. When we fill those businesses back up which have left our area, we will need the power. The power crisis was caused by lack of generating and transmission facilities. Corruption only enhanced and fed off the problem. |
