SUE DIGRE

Occupation: Parca, Family-Services Director

Education and Qualifications:

I earned a B.A. in Biology from Notre Dame University, Belmont, California. I am a California State credentialed Teacher, presently employed as the Director of Family Support Services for Parca. I advocate for the developmentally disabled in San Mateo County on the following issues: education, recreation, employment, affordable housing, health and child-care.

My husband and I met on horseback in the quarry in 1975. We were thrilled to be able to afford a house in the Manor area in 1990. Erick is a San Francisco Watershed Keeper and Captain of the Reserve Firefighters in San Bruno. We have been soccer and little league parents for four children. Two are firefighters, one RN, a United Airlines employee and a recent Terra Nova Grad. We helped with creek restorations, beach clean-ups and building Frontierland Park.

Pacificans love and enjoy Pacifica. We want to preserve the unique character of this coastal city surrounded by open hillsides. I became a member of the Concerned Manor Steering Committee, advocating for the public's right to vote on a Hillside Preservation variance. The landowner and developer filed suits, the courts ruled in favor of the public's right to free speech and assembly.

Pacificans still do need to question every aspect of a development. Donations of open space, library sites, affordable housing, must be studied with healthy skepticism. The public must continue its tradition of stewardship for our community.

A vibrant economy will preserve our irreplaceable natural assets. We have many untapped resources, the quarry, Beach Blvd., the pier, Palmetto, fish'n'bowl, historical buildings, numerous empty commercial offices. Pacifica can be more proactive in collaborating with existing businesses and in outreaching to new ones.

I attend city council, planning and school board meetings. I am the chairperson on the open space preservation subcommittee and a member of the Beach Task Force. I have been an outspoken advocate for the public's voice on the Pacific Ocean Discovery Center, library, pier, "bowl" and Gypsy Hill Plan B. I am a member of Integrated Housing Options and the Good Shepherd Advocacy Group for a City Youth Empowerment Task Force and Center.

President Lincoln expressed who we are: "a government of the people, by the people and for the people." If you agree City officials should champion the right of the public to control the future of our town, vote for:
SUE DIGRE
