Candidate for
Councilmember; City of Grover Beach

Candidate: John Shoals Age: 41

My family and I have lived in Grover Beach for over 14 years. Our household consists of two working parents and two teenage children. Over the years, we have developed a passion for our community and a desire to see Grover Beach prosper into a community with opportunities for all of its citizens.

I am a Cal Poly graduate from the School of Architecture of Environmental Design, with a B.S. in City and Regional Planning. I have over 15 years experience as a City Planner with the cities of Atascadero, Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo. I am currently the Planning Director at EDA Design Professionals in San Luis Obispo. As Grover Beach embarks on downtown redevelopment, business development and street repairs, I believe that I have the professional experience and knowledge needed to make these projects a reality.

As a former member of the Cal Poly men's basketball team (1980-1983), I understand the importance of positive youth activities and programs. I have devoted many hours to working with our youth. I served on the Five Cities Youth Basketball Board of Directors and volunteered as a coach and referee. I served on the North Oceano Elementary School Site Council. I support providing more recreational and cultural opportunities for our youth and seniors.

If elected to serve Grover Beach, I will work to bring respect to our community. I will represent the concerns of working families as well as other members of the community. I will work diligently to maintain a balance between improvement projects, business development, recreation, public safety and environment.
