Political Philosophy for Drew Brandy

My philosophy is this: Assure Port San Luis is a viable, active, working, clean port by implementing the desires of the public, employees and lessees through sound financial management of current revenues and securing long term independent monies through controlled future expansions of District properties in a safe and practical manner. Harford Pier needs extensive repairs. The Port needs to be proactive in restoring Harford Pier and the historic canopy to a safe pier so as to allow walking on the pier without personal injury due to tripping on the rickety rough planks. This will also enable the commercial fish businesses and restaurants to continue to receive and make truck deliveries, and allow commercial fishing boats to safely secure to the pier while offloading their catch or taking on fuel or ice. Over the years Mother Nature, waylaid maintenance, vehicles and boats have taken its toll. For the safety of the people around and on the pier, and financial viability for lessees, an aggressive action plan for restoration must be implemented. Port San Luis needs a safe, sound, environmentally friendly pier to meet the needs of the fishing industry, lessees, and Port patrons. Monies need to be budgeted, grants applied for, and action taken. Whether they are sport or commercial fishermen launching a boat, they normally go first thing in the morning returning later that day. During the spring tides, there were too many mornings and afternoons the launch dock sat on sand. Fishermen could not launch their boat and if they could they were limited to just a few hours of fishing before the dock sat on sand. This hurts the commercial fisherman financially and frustrates the sport fishermen. The sport launch basin and surrounding area will always have to be dredged. I will work hard to see that the boat launch basin always has water. I will ensure that all government permits are active and there is equipment to do the job right. Good decisions concerning the Port's future comes from your involvement. I will listen to and solicit your input so together we make prudent decisions for the betterment of our Port. |
