IT'S TIME FOR NEW LEADERSHIP!SANNELLA MAKES CAMPAIGN FOR MAYOR OFFICIAL July 31, 2002 Filing his campaign papers with the city clerks' office today, Planning Commissioner Michael Sannella made his candidacy for Mayor of San Marcos official. Sannella, who needed to collect 20 signatures from San Marcos voters to qualify for the November ballot was the first candidate for Mayor to officially submit his papers. Among those who signed his nomination papers are San Marcos council members, Hal Martin and Mark Rozmus as well as Vice Mayor, Pia Harris. Sannella's colleagues and fellow planning commissioners Cindy Wedge and Chairman of the commission, Jim Chin, also signed. "I believe that the majority of the city council and my friends and colleagues have nominated my candidacy because they too believe that San Marcos is ready for someone new in the Mayor's spot. They share with me my dedication and commitment to protecting our quality of life in San Marcos" Said Sannella. Sannella is an Operations Support Manager for Barton Protective Services in Rancho Bernardo and has lived in San Marcos since 1996. Both he and his wife Amy are graduates from Cal State San Marcos. They own a home in the Discovery Hills neighborhood of San Marcos. "I am running for Mayor of San Marcos because I care about the future of our city. I believe that strong leadership and accountability must be restored at City Hall. As Mayor I will make relieving traffic congestion and managing growth top priorities for our city" Said Sannella. "As a San Marcos Planning Commissioner, I constantly strive to protect our quality of life. I have successfully fought for larger and better parks and I have always believed that we all have a stake in promoting local businesses that strengthen our economy, provide jobs, contribute to our tax base, and provide quality goods and services for all of our residents" Sannella continued. Michael Sannella and his wife Amy believe strongly in giving back to their community. Amy is a fourth grade teacher at Richland elementary in San Marcos and Michael serves on the city's planning commission. In addition, both Michael and Amy serve on the Associate Board of the San Marcos Boys & Girls Club, as well as volunteer at the annual St. Marks Gran Fiesta and the Boys & Girls Club annual auction committee. |
