Why is the Tri-City Healthcare District important?By Jerry L. SalyerCandidate for Board Member; Tri-City Healthcare District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Affordable, quality healthcare is vital to life. Without your health, your wealth is irrelevant. Healthcare must also be affordable and be there when you need it. Although the TCHD doesn't receive much voter or media focus, it is a big business supported in part by your tax dollars. The annual budget is more that $189,000,000, roughly equal to the totals of the general funds of the cities it serves--- Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista. Why am I running? I believe in common sense for the common good. My experiences in healthcare, risk management, data processing, civic issues and organizations will add much needed perspective to the board. I hope to bring fresh ways of looking at the complex matters that confront TCHD. I see the financial and human side of the complex healthcare system and believe that I can work with a team of other people committed to the common good. I think that the community extends way beyond the medical center campus on Vista way. I understand that healthcare has changed radically since the district was formed in 1961. We must strive to be on the cutting edge of these changes. We have a good facility that is a remarkable asset to our community, but, like an unpolished gem, it COULD be so much better! We dare not risk losing the benefits of having such a comprehensive healthcare facility right here in our community. With the assistance of my vision, leadership, skills, concern, creativity and experience, we can raise the quality of care and vision for the people of Tri-City Healthcare District. Who am I? I am a 49-year-old business and homeowner who has lived in both Vista and Oceanside. I moved to North County in 1981 from Ohio, where I grew up. I have over 25 years of experience in the healthcare business and public service solving health issues and providing options for people and companies. I have a sense of humor and fair play. I have Mid-Western values. I believe that with my vision, leadership, skills, concern, creativity and experience to the board, we can better work together for quality care for all people. What have I done? I have been serving the community for years. I am involved. I understand how things get done. I am not a stranger to our elected leaders. I have served in various roles as follows: Oceanside Economic Development Commission, Oceanside Chamber Director, Representative to Tri-City Mission and Community Outreach Advisory Committee, Rotary Club President, Oceanside Arts Commission, OUSD Strategic Planning, Canine Companions for Independence Director. I am particularly proud of the "Beat Goes On" project when as president in 1999-2000, I led Oceanside Rotary's defibrillator program. We purchased and placed 17 automated external defibrillators with lifeguards, harbor police, volunteer police, golf courses, senior center, paramedic ambulances and at the Oceanside Civic Center. This was a coordinated effort by the Rotary Club with the city of Oceanside, Camp Pendleton, Tri-City Medical Center, the Oceanside Police Department and the Oceanside Fire Department. This spirit and commitment to bring people together for effective communication and collaboration is vitally important to the TCHD at this critical juncture. What do I want from you? I need 40,0000 votes to win a seat to represent common sense for the common good, to strive to make sure that we have the best affordable, quality healthcare for everyone. But I need your help. Please send a contribution to the address below, endorse me, invite me to speak to your clubs or HOA meetings, host a get-together, place signs in your yard, address envelopes, walk neighborhoods, telephone voters, and VOTE FOR SALYER Tri-City Healthcare District and tell your friends to just vote for me. Thank you Jerry PS-Please let me know if you can help. Call me at 630-1510 or email. Now |
