The role of government in a civilized societyBy William C. "Bill" LentiniCandidate for Council Member; City of Brea | |

This represents my personal philosohy of governmental responsibility to the public.I believe that the first priority for our governament is to provide for the public safety. I am a strong supporter of public safety measures. I will work to ensure that this priority is kept as the cornerstone of our governmental process. My track record as a law enforcement professional clearly indicates that I am very capable of making those decisions which require a quick and decisive response on behalf of those whom I represent. However, I also believe that most circumstances allow for the application of the public's input to solve problems. What is often forgotten in politics is the art of listening. I have learned how to recognize which situations call for immediate leadership and which call for active listening. In general, when it comes to government, I believe that "less is better". However, I also believe in the depth of resources we posess as citizens and I strongly encourage and support volunteerism throughout the community. I believe that elected officials are not only stewards of the public funds, but the public trust as well. Both should be judiciously guarded! |
