|
Eleazar Elizondo is a lifelong resident of Santa Ana and a candidate for Santa Ana City Council, Ward 6. Eleazar is committed to improving and expanding after-school programs in Santa Ana. Eleazar knows first hand after-school programs provide safe and constructive alternatives for young people. After school programs help reduce crime, improve academic achievement and perhaps most importantly give hard working parents the peace of mind only a constructive safe day care program can provide. Seeking better opportunities than those found in the agricultural fields of central California, Eleazar's family moved to Santa Ana in 1977. Twenty-five years later, Eleazar's family members are homeowners and business owners in Santa Ana. As a member of the Santa Ana City Council, Eleazar will work hard to ensure Santa Ana remains a city full of opportunities for all of its residents. As a child, Eleazar dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player and he pursued this dream on every baseball diamond in Santa Ana. As a student, Eleazar played baseball at Mater Dei High School, at Orange Coast College and at Chapman University. After college, he played for the Antelope Valley Ravens of the independent Golden State League and briefly with the Mexico City Red Devils. As Santa Ana City Council member, Eleazar will fight to dedicate the needed resources so the next generation of Santa Ana youths can pursue their own dreams. Eleazar knows government has the power to change lives. As a child, Eleazar received free lunch at Franklin Elementary School; as an adolescent, he lived in public subsidized housing, and as a young man he attended college with the aid of student loans. Eleazar has tried to repay the investment his community made in him through a long history of public service. Eleazar has served at every level of government and his distinguished record of service includes serving as Chair and member of the Santa Ana Housing & Redevelopment Commission; as a Civil Rights Analyst for the United States Department of Justice, and as an aide to United States Senator Barbara Boxer; to California State Senator Gloria Romero; to California State Assemblymember Lou Correa and to La Habra Councilmember Rose Espinoza. Eleazar volunteers countless hours to his community by mentoring students and serving on local and regional boards and commissions. Eleazar is Vice President of Neighborhood Housing Services of Orange County. He is Chair of the California Democratic Party 69th Assembly District. He is also a board member of the Orange County League of Conservation Voters, The American Cancer Society-Relay for Life, and The United Way of Los Angeles. Eleazar is Mater Dei High School's Varsity Pitching Coach. A graduate of Orange Coast College, Chapman University, B.A. in Political Science, and California State University Fullerton, M.A. in Political Science, Eleazar understands the value and importance of education and the special role local government has in meeting the needs of our community. In March of 2000, Eleazar was first runner-up for the 1st District Orange County Board of Supervisors, earning 25,000 votes. Eleazar operates his own communications firm in Santa Ana and clients have included the Air Resources Board of California and the California Secretary of State. |
