Promote knowledge in all matters effecting Harbor

By Donna Jean Solomon

Candidate for Harbor Commissioner; Moss Landing Harbor District

This information is provided by the candidate
Promote knowledge of upcoming regulations and laws from State and Federal managers of water resource
The Moss Landing Harbor Commission needs to be a well-rounded representation of all of the members living, working, and visiting within the harbor district.

I have, for many years, represented businesses, as well as the commercial fishers, at the State and Federal meetings held thoughout California and Oregon.

I have been proactive in fishery science, data collection, enviornmental issues, and industry information sharing for the past five years.

Moss Landing Harbor needs to be involed in and stay highly informed on all of the issues which effects it. This includes Sanctuary proposals, fishing regulations, proposed marine protected areas, water quality concerns, slough restoration and State and Federal proposed management plans.

As of September 1, 2002 the nearshore waters, as well as the continental shelf, was closed to commercial fishing and will not reopen until January of next year. This year, the nearshore open access fisherman will be closed for six months. Their loss of income/work highly will effect the income of the Harbor. A Representative from the harbor must attend meetings which are held in order to be well informed of all laws which effect the District.

I have been a business owner for many years and have been very involved in this community and laws effecting its economic value. I have alerted its fishing community and business owners to any proposals to change regulations.

I ask for your vote on November 5th so we will be more prepared and knowledgeable in the concerns which are facing the harbor and its district today as well as in the future.
