Public Safety - We need to support our local public safety departments. Making sure we have proper funding to keep our streets safe must be vigorously pursued. Keeping essential current programs in place must be a priority for us all. In the event that the utility tax is repealed, current funding must not be touched. Eliminating the crossing guards from our schools is not an answer. Protecting our city, children and youth has to be a priority for us all. Protecting Our Children and Youth - One of the biggest challenges, not only for Salinas but for our country, is protecting our children and youth. We need leaders that will encourage development of city run youth centers and programs that will give them more opportunities to learn and stay active. Our State is willing to give up on our children and youth, lets not do the same. Affordable Housing - When only 7.7% of the citizens of Salinas can afford the cost of a median priced home, we have a problem. We must remember that "dream homes" should become a reality, not just stay a dream. We need to start thinking of ways we can work with developers. Utility Tax - The repeal of the utility tax is one of the more important issues we face this November. The loss of jobs, city programs and the effects it will have on us all if repealed must be addressed and publicized. If you were to vote for just one thing on the November ballot, it would have to be "NO" on utility tax repeal. |
