Full Biography for Jesus M. Garcia

Jesus Garcia arrived in the United States in 1963 as a 5-year-old child. He came from Mexico with his father, a US citizen from Colorado, his mother and younger sister. All sought opportunities not then available in impoverished Central Mexico.
Education Following three years' work for the UCLA Early Academic Outreach Office, he entered UCLA's Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Planning where he received his MA degree in Urban Planning. Garcia has also attended summer programs in Policy Skills at the University of Washington, Seattle and at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Cambridge.

In summary, Garcia has the formal education, career and community experience and, with two children enrolled at Cesar Chavez Elementary School, a vested interest in ensuring that all BCSD students have the best opportunities for a quality education.
Garcia lives in Bakersfield with his wife Alejandra and four daughters.
