Smart Voter Full Biography for Glen Price

Candidate for
Board Member; West Contra Costa Unified School District

Glen Price has dedicated his entire career, both professional and volunteer, to community service and development. He is an excellent organizer and manager with a proven ability to deliver outstanding results.

Price received the entirety of his education in California's public schools and, after graduating from UC Santa Cruz, spent the following five years engaged in intensive community organizing and development work in impoverished rural regions of Indonesia and Colombia.

His subsequent professional and volunteer work includes over twenty years experience working with public and non-profit organizations to better achieve their goals with a special emphasis on improved management, planning, and financial development capabilities. Price served as a Vice President with the YMCA of the East Bay in northern California where he was responsible for the financial development of the organization. His accomplishments with the Y included initiating the development of one of the East Bay's most aggressive teen pregnancy prevention programs, FutureChoice.

Currently, Price has established his own consulting practice providing services to non-profit organizations and government agencies in strategic planning, resource development, and campaigns. The clients of his company, the Glen Price Group, have included the City of New York, City of Los Angeles, County of Sonoma, Berkeley and Oakland Head Start, and the Workforce Strategy Center.

Price has been actively involved in efforts to positively transform the WCCUSD since his eldest daughter, now in the 12th grade, entered district schools. He has gained in-depth knowledge of conditions within the West Contra Costa Unified School District through his first term on the school board and his tireless work to organize parents and community members in support of our schools. Among his many activities Price has been:

• Co-Chair Measure E (1996); Co-Chair Measure E (1998); Co- Chair Measure M (2000); Co-Chair Measure D (2002). Price's energetic organizational, leadership, and communication skills were widely credited with helping these measures all win by unprecede3nted margins. Together, they have brought in over $500 million to maintain and fix our schools.

• Co-Founder, Community Alliance for Public Education.

• Co-Organizer, May 2000, West Contra Costa mobilization to reinvest the WCCUSD district debt in children and schools.

During his first term on the board Price provided key leadership to:

• Build and open the new Hercules Middle/High School

• Raise the funds for, design, and build the new Richmond Middle School.

• Raise over $450 million for the repair and reconstruction of our district's elementary, middle and high schools.

• Raise teacher and employee salaries by over 30% while maintaining balanced budgets and reducing administrative expenses.

• Focus district resources on our key priority of improving student academic performance.
