Born in Southern California, attended schools in California, Texas, New Jersey. Vietnam Veteran (1966-1968), graduated Rutgers College, Rutgers University 1969, working way through.

Worked for large international Company, travelling in Europe and South America. Purchased home in Pleasant Hill in 1974, but was transferred to London, England just as the sale closed.

While in England, attended London School of Business, but was transferred to Belgium, and finished International Business Executive Programme at Insead, the premier business school in Fontainbleau, France. (I am fluent in French.)

Worked in various capacities in Italy, England, Belgium, and Germany eventually as Managing Director of German company with $100+ Million in sales, 1200+ employees. (I speak German, but with lots of rust.) Was a member of the Institute of Credit Management, served on the board of a non-profit Parks Preservation group, and was on several committees of the American Chamber of Commerce in Belgium.

In 1990, was hired as Managing Director of publicly-held Belgian company with $200+ million in sales, and 500+ employees. (I speak all three languages of Belgium - French, Flemish and German - the last two only fairly well.) I served for two years on the board of TEA Switzerland, a small charter airline, and also also served on a Brussels Parks preservation non-profit board.

In 1995, company was taken over by a French group which made a public offer for all shares, and I returned to the US as gereral manager/owner of Cost Plus Nurseries. That business was closed in late 2001, since which time I have been active in real estate investment.

I've been on the Planning Commission since 1999, acting as Chair until mid-2002. To the best of my recollection, I have missed only three of the 75 to 80 meetings held in the past three years, two because of work conflicts, one due to vacation. (I will miss one more meeting - whether of the City Council or the Planning Commission depends upon the voters - in December, as I will be spending a long Christmas holiday with family in Brussels.

I've been active in my local neighborhood homes association (Sherman Acres Homes) and in Pleasant Hill Citizens for Responsible Growth, where I was elected to the board in 2000.

I'm not married now, so I have more time available to serve my community.
