Candidate Statement

By Alice E. Evenson

Candidate for City Clerk; City of Pittsburg

This information is provided by the candidate
Historically, the office of City Clerk in the City of Pittsburg has been held by a City employee. This assures citizens that the City Clerk is available to them full time and I wish to continue that tradition. The present City Clerk has retired from City employment. I currently serve the City as Executive Assistant, and provide staff support to the City Manager and Council, and I handle the entire agenda process. I am also the Deputy City Clerk and perform all duties of the City Clerk. The Clerk's office is frequently the first place people come for information about local agencies and organizations, as well as City business. It is my responsibility to greet the public throughout the day and help or guide them in any way I can. I will bring the office into the 21st Century technologically. I have the knowledge and hands-on experience to be an effective City Clerk.

The City Clerk's office is not a political position. The duties and responsibilities of this office are clearly set by law and include the Council agenda process, minutes, City-wide records management, FPPC filings, and overseeing elections. It is incumbent upon the City Clerk to comply with laws and regulations such as the Political Reform, Public Records, Maddy and Brown Acts and the California State Elections Code. I do this now as part of my regular job duties.

My professional memberships include: International Institute of Municipal Clerks; City Clerks Association of California; Northern California City Clerks Association, California Association of Clerks and Election Officials; National Notary Association. I am obtaining Certified Municipal Clerk status through the International Institute.

The City of Pittsburg is deserving of a full time City Clerk. I would be honored to serve you in that capacity.
