Political Philosophy for David P. Wong
Candidate for |

|
My campaign theme is "The People's Voice." Because the Mayor represents the entire city, the Mayor sets the tone for the city. I will bring Long Beach into the 21st Century and create a Master Plan developed for marketing our City for tourism and conventions. I will be a working and visible mayor, providing strong leadership in the city process holding council members accountable for their Districts. I will review the current City Charter and evaluate our officials' roles, including the Mayor's. I will initiate Charter reform, if necessary. I will propose tax incentives to attract businesses back to Long Beach, especially the West and North part of the City. I will review current contracts to determine which services can be brought back to the city. Further, I would analyze the Civil Service code to determine the possibility of preference for municipal jobs to city residents. I will work to streamline our bureaucracy so that residents and businesses can receive timely responses. Under the leadership of the Mayor's office, I will establish Citizen or Neighborhood Task Forces, who would gather feedback on city services and neighborhood needs. I will seek ways to increase city or non-profit programs for the poor and homeless and senior citizen programs and housing.I will seek ways to improve hiring practices public or private with emphasis on equal opportunity. I will explore our parking problems, which plague our residents and businesses throughout the city, perhaps with a citywide permit process or assessments or with additional public parking. But, above all, I will be a Mayor that will bring equality of opportunity and justice to all residents and businesses of Long Beach. |
