Having been born and raised in Michigan, I came to Cincinnati to attend the University of Cincinnati where I earned a Bachelor of Urban Planning and Design. It was at UC that I met my wife Elizabeth, with whom I will have been married 18 years on our anniversary day, November 5th, election eve. We have two great children of our own, John and Kate, and are currently hosting our third AFS student, Ida, from Denmark. Our other two AFS daughters are Sezy, from Turkey, and Chiara, from Italy. My professional career reflects my commitment to public service. My first job was serving as the Project Manager for the Boneyfiddle Historic District in Portsmouth, OH. for 3 years. After that, I took a job with People Working Cooperatively, Inc., a non profit agency that provides home repairs and weatherization services to needy residents in the Greater Cincinnati area. I developed the volunteer program at PWC, as well as their two annual volunteer events, Repair Affair and Prepare Affair. Prepare Affair was used as a model for the development of the United Way's Community Care Day. I worked for PWC for 13 years. After leaving PWC, I took the position of Urban Land Manager for the Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District. During the 5 years I worked there, I revised the Hamilton County Earthwork Regulations, which I was also responsible for enforcing. I was called upon to testify in two court cases which dealt with runoff from construcion sites. I also gained extensive knowledge about the dynamics and legalities of storm water, streams, and the impacts land use has on streams. I received training on fluvial geomorphology, or how streams react to impacts, from Dave Rosgen, an internationally known expert on the subject. That knowledge, as well as my experience working with many of the County's departments and directors will serve me well on Terrace Park's Village Council. Nearly two years ago, I received a call from PWC asking me if I would be willing to come back to help with a reorganization they were undertaking. I returned and am currently the Director of Client/Community Services. |
