Better Police/Community RelationsBy Wes FlinnCandidate for Council Member; City of Cincinnati | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Giving the CPRP subpoena power, getting officers out of their cars, expanding community-oriented policing, and encouraging officers to live in the City.BETTER POLICE/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
It is absolutely vital to the credibility of the organization and to the citizens of the city that the CitizensŐ Police Review Panel be given subpoena power. This will send a message that the city cares about the rights of ALL its citizens, and truly believes that all are equal in the eyes of the law.
I would propose a complete and thorough examination of Cincinnati Police Division training procedures by the top experts in current law-enforcement theory, to see if there are, as some have suggested, inherent problems in the methods of training. Police training should include more de-escalation techniques and more community-based techniques.
I am a firm believer in taking police out of the cars as needed and placing them on foot, where they can interact with the members of the community. This would lead to greater understanding on all sides of the community.
Since people care the most about where they live, I would STRONGLY encourage that city employees, police officers, and firefighters live within the city of Cincinnati. To add encouragement, income tax abatements and extra civil service points could be given to City residents. |
